Lagrein dunkel
Lagrein is probably the oldest local red-wine grape.
Variety: 100% Lagrein
Location: Bozner Boden/Piani di Bolzano and Gries (districts of
Bozen/Bolzano)
Canopy management: “Pergola” training system, integrated
production
Vinification: stalk removal, subsequent temperature-controlled
fermenting and ten-day-contact with the must in stainless steel vats
Maturation: biological acidity reduction and ageing in large oak
barrels
Data:
- alcohol: 13% by vol.
- total acidity: 4.6-4.8 gr/l
- residual sugar: 1.5-2.5 gr/l
Characteristics:
- colour: pomegranate red with slight tinges of violet when young
- smell: fruity with slight scent of violets and dark bilberries
- taste: full-bodied, thick textured, supple, with a velvety aroma and soft
tannin, elegant and highly concentrated, with a taste of dark fruit on the
palate
Goes well with: almost any of the traditional South Tyrolean
dishes, excellent with game, dark meat, and strong cheeses
Shelf life: 2-5 years
Serving temperature: 16-18°C
