St. Magdalener Rondell
The hilltop of the “Glögglhügel” is called “Rondell”, where very old
vines of the most valuable varieties of the Vernatsch grape (Italian:
schiava) are to be found.
Cru Rondell offers more fruit, more substance, more depth and more tannins
than St. Magdalener Classico.
Varieties: 93% Groß-, Mitter-, and Tschaggelevernatsch and 7%
Lagrein
Location: hilltop of the “Glögglhügel”
Canopy management: “Pergola” training system, integrated
production
Vinification: stalk removal, subsequent temperature-controlled
fermenting and one-week-contact with the must in stainless steel vats
Maturation: biological acidity reduction and seasoning in large
oak barrels
Data:
- alcohol: 12.5-13% by vol.
- total acidity: 4.2-4.6 gr/l
- residual sugar: 1.5-2.5 gr/l
Characteristics:
- colour: bright, vigorous ruby red colour
- smell: fruity and flowery with a scent of cherries and violets, fine
almond flavour, warm
- taste: velvety, harmonious, strongly developed and full bodied, depth,
mild acidity, fine tannin and a lingering aftertaste
Goes well with: excellent with game, dark meat, strong cheeses and
“Marende” (local snacks)
Shelf life: 2-4 years
Serving temperature: 15-16°C
